How to Visit Monserrate Palace and Park in Sintra, Portugal
The Palace of Monserrate is a 19th centurty, Arabic-style villa surrounded by a lovely park in Sintra, Portugal. It is one of the lesser visited sites in Sintra, simply due to its location farther away from the town center. However, it is well worth the bus ride or drive out to see it.

Getting to the Palace of Monserrate
The Palace of Monserrate is located approximately 3.5 miles from the Sintra train station. On Google maps, it will probably tell you this is a 13-minute car ride. However, unless you are traveling outside of opening hours, it will likely take much longer to get through the traffic congestion.
If you have your own vehicle, this is probably the best way to reach the palace located on road N375 that connects the town of Sintra to Colares. There is plenty of free parking on-site. Ubers and tuk-tucks can take you there, as well.
Alteratively, the Sintra tourist bus line #435 runs continuously throughout the day and stops at Monserrate. A full day hop-on-hop-off ticket can be purchased in advance here.
Planning your visit
Opening times: The palace is open from 9:30 am until 6:00 pm and the gardens are open from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm, which makes this a good option for the end of the day after visiting the other attractions en route, such as Villa Sassetti, Biester, Quinta de Regaleira, and Palacio de Seteais.
Visit duration: I would allow an hour to see the palace, plus additional time to explore the park. The park has some steep, uneven walking paths down to a lake, so you’ll need proper footwear.
Tickets: Purchase advance tickets to the Palace of Monserrate here.
